To produce this rare lithograph, which already is exceptional by it’s format, Miquel Barcelo used varnish to get these sets of shades and transparencies ; even though it is a lithograph, this print also incorporates embossment, Barcelo put broad beans at the moment of the printing to get to these little bumps in the paper. Barcelo in this printing shows all his control of the lithography technique, which is one of Barcelo’s most rare and accomplished ones.

One work, one book

La boucle du Niger
La boucle du Niger
Last book written by Bowles, published in 1991, "La boucle du Niger" (The loop of Niger) tells the adventures of Tom and Anita, 2 Westerners in a African city, not far from the Niger river. All the great topics of Bowles are present: discomfort, lie, predict and presentiments, silly thing and cowardice and hoodoo of the couple for a man, then a city, then a whole country : Africa ; topics already approached in its preceding novels. This edition is accompanied by drawings of Barcelo which had met the writer before in Tangier. At the beginning in fact the 4 lithographs of Barcelo were to illustrate the text but the project never was born. Finally Barcelo drew from his notebooks of drawings of Mali for this beautiful publication. Edition Eric Koehler, 1996. (Original edition:"Too far from home", with 28 watercolours of Mali from Barcelo, Bischofberger edition 1992).
