Pierre Alechinsky, centres et marges
Catalogue of an important exhibition Alechinsky at the Royal Museums of the Art of Belgium in 1988. This exhibition had already been shown to the Guggenheim Museum of New York and in the Kunstverein of Hanover. As the title of the catalogue indicates it, the exhibition is devoted to the marginal drawings that Alechinsky very often realize around its works ; waves, characters, volcanos, it is always a history that Alechinsky tells us, in margin of its works. In margin yes, but integral part of work. The mixing of technique often gives very interesting results (generally acrylic for the central part of the work and Indian ink for the margins). These margins are sometimes "prédelles" (only one band in bottom of the painting). Nearly 120 works are reproduced in colors. Poem of Octavio Paz and interview of Alechinsky by Michael Gibson, Alechinsky who explains with much serious and humour the narrative sequences of his works. Important biography at the end of the book. Back
